After, I watched The Nova’ s documentary of Dr Hany Farid  who developed new technologies about detecting forgeries of photographs. I found this video amazing about new science of digital forensics. First of all, the way that he created the software which can define which one of  scan pictures is the real or the fake one. This is will help people to found if someone copy a images from someone else or they create them. Also, another technology is that we can determine where the light were during a photo shoot just by looking at the eyes of the model. I never thought about this before this video, but when he used the picture of the X-Factor’s judges, we could realize were the lights were. This is show us too, that eyes can means more than words.But if there is more than one photographer, the picture will not be the same.

For our design, we focus our idea, on the idea that the pumpkins are really important for them, and they see them to be special. The main point in our design is the pumpkin. We tried to found best pumpkin which represented the idea of Walton’s view farm.

A graphic style is important because this is what made it different than other graphic designer. Also, it help the audience to understand the poster. Example for us, we tried to show the pumpkin as first, and make thing about the fall season with the yellow background. At first we made a root but everybody at the peer critic was agree that we should have one color. I am agree with that, because the yellow, make the pumpkin pop out. Also, we use a brown dark for the leaves and the and the top of the pumpkin. For the pumpkin by itself, we use a medium orange and use the paintbrush to sure that all the pumpkin have the same color, because it have some shape of brown, which look like the pumpkin was dirty. This took us a long time, to find a way to delete all the brown without delete the all pumpkin, because at first when we use the magic tool and the eraser, it delete most of our pumpkin. So, to have the same shape or orange, we use the paintbrush from the top of it. For the leaves, we had some at first,but they had different shapes of color, that we did not like, so we decided to find a basic leaf with one color, which will feet with or design. For the font, we use KG hard Candy, and we took the red from the leaves to add to it. Then, we use the darker brown shading from the top of the pumpkin. We tried to stay with four tones of color. We finally finished by making our logo, simple and by want to make the audience think about the fall and see the pumpkin at first.

For our logo, Bri and I will focus our work on the label of Walton’s view farm. Also, we have in mind the idea that Amanda had about the design’s logo which is to be able to read the logo by using the right font color. Then, she wants the logo to be on stickers, so we will have a small design that can be easily printable with not a lot color.In our logo, the pumpkin will be in the middle of the logo with some tree’s leaves in the bottom which fell of the tree and adding some roots into the logo design to show that their business are not only about pumpkins. In the background, we will use the Smokey mountain with a sun in the corner because Amanda mentioned how much the background and the image were important and how she wants the public to see her family’s farm when they will see the logo. For the color, we will use some dark green and we think about using a gold shady around the logo’s name, but we did not decide yet about the font size. Our idea is more focusing on pumpkins even they are not their only products, but they are the famous item that people used for decorating festivals and during the fall. Also, we will use some color which  will represent the fall season such as orange for the pumpkin and some tree’s leaves mix with a lit a bit of yellow. As Amanda mentioned the pumpkin are selling during the fall and to take in consideration the environment around us, this is why we chose those colors. We want something really happy and when you see it, you just think about the fall season. Also, our logo will be not have plenty of colors or being huge, so it will be easier to print and use everywhere.

Zach and Yassema’s Poster

Zach and I worked together to find different images online, such as the carnivore plant, avocado and the pot. When we got those images, we used the magic tool to select the extra part of those images, then we used the eraser tool to delete the previous selection. After that, we cut all of them by using the move tool to move the images and put them together and created a new image with the carnivore head plant connecting to the avocado body standing in the pot, just like it was only one plant. Then, we focused ourselves on the color of our images to made all the different parts look like cartoonish, so we took the eyedropper to change the tone of the green on the avocado and inside the mouth of the carnivore plant, next we used the brightness and contrast to made all the part look like similar and uniform. When we did this we were able to make them go together and look like they actually belonged and when we did this it made the plant and the pot all look similar which was a cartoonish look that we were going for.

Yassema and I wanted to really focus on the plant itself and let it be the center piece to our poster. We did not want something to flashy or to complex that it would be hard to distinguish what this play is really about. Dr. Miller stated she wanted something simple that got the point across which I think ours really does do this because you really do not want to spoil what the play is about by putting numerous things about the play on the poster. The reason we chose the background as just a plain gray with some wrinkles in it because it makes the plant pop out. Not only does the plant stand out on the paper but the title does too. We chose the red color with a black background because even though our plant may be cartoonish and give off a funny vibe it still has the spooky and scary feel which is what we think Dr. Miller wanted.

Design and Discovery

“Design and Discovery” filmed on February 200, by David Carson is about how people saw messages in graphic designs. He used a slide projector to show images from his own experiences, like when he went to Barcelona and he thought that the letter “B” on the top was meaning “Barcelona,” and he said “Everything’s gotten simpler in design, and here’s this mega airport” but when he came back later at the same airport he realized that this letter was the gate. He thought that the graphic design of this airport was simpler even he was at a international airport. This is was that I really like this part of the slide because people can have conception on somethings, but the message that the designer try to give is really different. Then, The way that he is explaining the images with humor made the audience focused on this presentation, even me I liked the way that he was explaining the different slides by showing his own graphic designs.

With zach we tried our best to do the image of the poster with a story inside to give people an idea of what the piece will look like. The message is to show that a carnivore plant is dangerous and can hurt people, but at the same time we do not want the audience to see to see it like something bloody. The design will come on landscape with images to the right and writing to the left. We found pictures that we changed color and size. Also, we are focusing on something which look like a cartoon image. I think the more difficult was the idea that we had in the beginning but our skills to use Photoshop was our weakness, so we worked around that to do our poster. For next week, we plan to finish the color of our images and choose the front to write our poster.

The Dot and the Line

After that I saw “The Dot and the Line”, I considered that the line is the most useful tool, because it can create more set. The line can be a simple line, but also make a triangle, rectangle or curves. However, I most often take for granted the dot because it is complete and you cannot change it anymore. The dot is a circle which does not give any other set, and by seeing the video, we can see that the dot never change.

As a graphic designer, I do not believe that the simplest form is nearly always the most effective, because when you are a designer you need creativity and by employing the simple one, you will not be capable to make new material. When you are a graphic designer you need to improve your work and created plenty of form and images, and they will be all different, because if you use all the time the same thing, your work will not be inventive.

Your job is to create designs for clients, and they did not have the same idea or project, so you will have to be creative. For example, when you have a rock, it is a solid and you cannot change it, but if you took water you can create a lot of things with it, like ice or vapor water.

I think that the “The Dot of the Line” teaches us that the simplest is not the best. Also, as a graphic designer it will be better to choose the line, because during all the video it changes form, and it has been used and all the time in our life, than the dot just stays a simple dot. If we use the dot, we assign it less, larger or even turn it to the left or to the right, but nothing will change because it is a simply a circle.

What is Graphic Design?

Hello, I am Yassema Amos and I am from Guadeloupe which is a French Island located in the Carribean. I am a junior with a Political Science major and a French minor.

I think that graphic design is an artistic way to communicate or relay a message to people. It is integrated into our life and around us every day by just watching our favorites movies, commercial advertisement or brands. All of them have an idea or a thought to relay to us, and everywhere you will go, you will recognize them. Like Adidas, all the time you will see shoes will three stripes the name of the brand will show up in your head. And so, I think that the graphic design of today is more based on images and logos, because there are internet and new softwares which made designer goes quickly and realized more materials for the new generation all time waiting for new things.
